After reading the Tiger's Curse series by Colleen Houck, I fell in love with the description she gave of the Hindu Rakshasa. I wanted to portray one how I viewed them while reading the story. Reading has always brought me great inspiration so when I feel I am in a slump, picking up a book has been a immense help. The Tiger's Curse series entranced me in a world unlike any other and really brought my interest to Hindu Mythology. There are tons of descriptions out there of the Rakshasa spanning across several different belief systems, but all come down to a common theme. Rakshasa are vampiric like humanoids labeled as man-eaters. They have sharp fangs that drip with venom and are master illusionists, magicians, shape shifters. It is also said their body thrives off heat and their tribal markings glow with the intensity of embers.
I have also been pushing myself to do more illustrations more so than the typical character concepts I normally do. Practice makes perfect and I hope I am on the right track.
